Tony Mamone | CEO and co-founder

Tony Mamone serves as Chief Executive Officer for Zimbio which he co-founded with Danny Khatib in the spring of 2005. Prior to starting Zimbio, he was Senior Vice President of U.S. Sales and Operations for LookSmart, a public company focused on Internet search and advertising, where he managed a team of over 100 employees responsible for over $120 million in annual revenue. In his five years at LookSmart, he also served as vice president of products and general manager of small business sales. In these roles, he managed worldwide sales, marketing, product development, support, operations, and business development activities. Prior to joining LookSmart, Tony worked for Mercer Management Consulting advising media and communications clients.

Tony completed a Sloan Fellowship at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and holds a masters degree from Stanford, a B.E. in Engineering Sciences from the Thayer School of Engineering and a B.A. in Engineering from Dartmouth College.

Danny Khatib | President and co-founder

Danny Khatib is a co-founder and serves as President for Zimbio, where he is responsible for managing the company’s product and development activities. Prior to starting Zimbio, he spent three years at AOL Time Warner working on digital media initiatives in the Strategy and Investments group, where he focused on the broadband media segment, including online music, video, and games. While at AOL Time Warner, Danny was involved in external and internal partnership negotiations, new product and new venture planning, broadband and video technology strategy, corporate venture capital, M&A, business development and technology standards development. Danny has also held product management, business development, and finance positions with companies such as Skype, Yahoo!,, and UBS.

Danny holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he was honored as an Arjay Miller scholar, and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the The Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania.


Thomas Ream | CFO

Tom has served as CFO and/or COO for a number of venture backed companies, including ViVu, Qik, Tapulous as well as companies in the email messaging and security, mobile communications, web publishing, couponing spaces, enterprise software, and financial services sectors. For these companies Tom had a wide variety of responsibilities encompassing fund raising, financial planning, accounting, human resources management, facilities and legal affairs. In addition to traditional CFO responsibilities, Tom has also managed corporate development, business with the US Federal and State governments, a real-time mission critical data center, professional services, and even sales and marketing. Tom has led contract negotiations with major banks and manufacturing organizations leading to multiyear multimillion dollar contracts, inside the US, and in Europe, Asia, and Latin America.

Tom led and closed a number of financings for his companies, raising in excess of $100 million, and also participated heavily in M & A activity on both the buy and sell side. Tom worked for many years at VeriFone prior to its sale to Hewlett Packard in 1998, and helped build the International Division from 15 employees and $6 million in revenue to 300 employees and $180 million in revenue. Along the way, Tom held various positions; first as Controller, International Division, then VP Americas (Latin America and Canada) and finally VP and General Manager of the International Division, which, as a corporate officer of a public company, he led from $100 million in revenue to $180 million.

Tom serves as Vice Chairman and Chairman, Finance Committee of Family and Children Services, a non-profit organization which has provided counseling, caring and support to children, youth and adults in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties since 1948.

Tom received his MBA in finance from UCLA, graduated with honors from UCSB with a degree in economics, and is a Certified Public Accountant in California. He belongs to the AICPA, and got his start in business by working for KPMG.

John Newlin | Editor-in-Chief

John Newlin has worked in print and digital media his entire career. Before joining Zimbio in 2008, he was the founding Editor in Chief of The Wave Magazine, where he won several consecutive Peninsula Press Club awards for writing. Prior to that, he worked at BUZZ Magazine in Los Angeles, launched a pop culture music and fashion print monthly for LFP, Inc. when he was 22 and worked on the early stages of what would later become Business2.0. He was later part of the and launch teams for Future Networks USA, where he led the Entertainment divisions for both sites as Editor-in-Chief. His writing has appeared in several national publications including Stuff, Men’s Journal and Details. Newlin was also a regular on ABC’s Good Morning America as a media expert, has produced segments for Evening Magazine on CBS, co-wrote a pilot for Comedy Central and, for the purposes of a magazine article, successfully infiltrated and appeared on Showtime’s Penn & Teller: Bullshit! as a “UFO expert.”

He oversees all things editorial for Zimbio, Inc.’s online properties. Newlin is a graduate of Lake Forest College and resides in Monte Sereno, Calif. with his wife and two children.


Jennifer McLean | VP of Marketing

Jen comes to Zimbio from Technorati where she developed strategic client campaigns and ad products across verticals from tech to movies to moms, and led marketing efforts for the company. During her tenure as vp of marketing, Technorati launched a social media advertising network and acquired two companies. Jen previously worked for Glam Media, heading up the company’s marketing and communications efforts. Prior to joining Glam, she was with Double Fusion, a videogame advertising network, where she ran marketing, public relations and sales development as well as conceived and launched Double Fusions In-Game Advertising Summit event series. Previously, she served as director of marketing for IGN Entertainment and then Fox Interactive Media. At IGN, Jen was responsible for client media strategy and custom client promotions, marketing, public relations and events. At CMP media, she was responsible for marketing, public relations, and industry alliances for the Game Developers Conference, GDC Mobile, the Independent Games Festival, and Jen has also worked in advertising on both the creative and account management sides and received her bachelor of fine arts from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Bruce Martin | CTO

Bruce Martin serves as the CTO of Zimbio with 20 years of professional experience in engineering and software development. Part of the launch team for Zimbio, he focuses on the performance, reliability, and flexibility of technical systems. He also developed a content matching system that underlies the company’s ongoing content relationships. Prior to joining Zimbio, he was an architect at LookSmart, Ltd., where he optimized and improved the relevance of general search and ads. During his time there, he also co-authored a patent for high-performance collection and delivery of ads. Bruce served as an engineering lead at SAIC, where he developed large-scale battlefield simulations and worked on R&D projects involving data mining.

Bruce resides in San Mateo with his wife and two children and holds a Masters degree in Computer Science from the University of Central Florida, where he focused on artificial intelligence and natural language understanding.
